Philodendron Melanochrysum in SG Paludariums and Vivariums
Philodendron Melanochrysum is a stunning aroid prized for its long, velvety dark-green leaves shot through with golden veining, and it is a terrestrial climbing plant best suited to the land sections of a paludarium, vivarium or riparium rather than full submersion. Trained up a moss pole or a piece of standing driftwood, its dramatic foliage adds vertical drama and a true jungle feel to the emergent part of a wet-dry build.
This species loves exactly what Singapore offers: warmth and high humidity. Our climate keeps the air moist enough that the velvety leaves stay happy, which is often the hardest condition to maintain elsewhere. Give it bright indirect light, a chunky well-draining mix kept lightly moist, and something to climb, as the leaves grow larger and more impressive as it ascends. Keep the roots out of standing water to avoid rot, letting it sit above the waterline.
See our live plants range for companion foliage. For placing it in a wet-dry layout, our riparium emergent plants guide and paludarium vs riparium guide will help.
