Keeping the Red Paradise Fish in Singapore
The Red Paradise Fish is a hardy labyrinth fish with flowing fins and bold colour, and as an air-breather it tolerates a wide range of conditions that would stress many community species. That toughness made it one of the earliest ornamental fish in the hobby. Males are territorial and can be feisty, especially toward each other and toward long-finned tankmates, so plan stocking carefully and provide plenty of broken sightlines and cover.
Because they gulp atmospheric air at the surface, they cope well in warm, lower-oxygen water, and Singapore’s ambient 27-29C suits them without a heater. Soft, slightly acidic dechlorinated tap water is fine. A planted tank with floating cover, driftwood and a calm surface lets them build their bubble nests and shows off their colour. Keep them with robust, non-nippy companions rather than slow or delicate fish.
