The K101 runs entirely on two D batteries, which makes it the simple, grab-and-go backup every Singapore fishkeeper should have in a drawer. There is nothing to charge and nothing to fail silently; pop in fresh batteries and it pushes a steady stream through the included hose and air stone. The clip on the back is handy for fishing trips or for keeping a transport bag aerated when you bring home new stock from the shop.

During a monsoon blackout, our warm 27-29C water loses oxygen quickly in a stocked tank, and a battery pump like this buys you time until mains power returns. We suggest keeping a spare pair of D batteries taped nearby so you are never caught short during a late-night cut. For sustained outages on larger systems you may want a higher-output unit, but for nano tanks and transport the K101 is reliably portable.
