Description

Common Name: Anubias Barteri Coffeefolia
Anubias Coffeefolia is a beautiful variant of the common Anubias Barteri that can grow to about 12 inches tall. Like other Anubias it can thrive in both aquariums and terrariums either submerged or emersed. It has long stems like Anubias Barteri but the leaves have a ruffled texture. This plant is suitable as a midground and background as the leaves can grow up to 3” long.
Like other Anubias, this variant is a flowering plant that grows best when the rhizome is attached to a hard surface such as wood or stones. They have low to medium light requirements and can benefit from regular fertilization. CO2 is not necessary but can promote faster growth and more robust leaves. Since its a slow grower, the leaves are susceptible to algae growth if placed under high lighting.
Propagation is easy and straightforward; simply cut or pull apart rhizomes to be replanted. Make sure to keep the rhizomes above your substrate or the plant can begin to rot.
Notes:

Anubias are strong plants that can thrive in a variety of environments.

These epiphytes can be planted above the substrate or attached to hardscape.
Burying the rhizome, will cause the plant to melt and die.
Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant.

Please be sure to remove this plant from its pot. For instructions on how to properly prep aquarium plants, click here.

CO2 injection and quality aquarium soil will yield better growth.
Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.

TCulture Anubias barteri ‘Coffeefolia’ in a Singapore aquascape

Coffeefolia is the connoisseur’s barteri, instantly recognisable by its deeply ridged, quilted leaves that emerge a coppery bronze before hardening into deep green. We love it as a textural midground accent against smoother-leaved plants and dark hardscape. Being epiphytic, it must never be planted into substrate; instead we glue or tie the rhizome onto wood or rock, where it slowly establishes and rewards patient keepers with that characteristic ruffled foliage.

It is a genuinely easy plant for local conditions, shrugging off the soft, slightly acidic water from most SG taps and growing steadily under modest light with no CO2 required. The trade-off, as with every Anubias, is slow growth, so in our warm tanks keep flow moving across the leaves and dose a little liquid fertiliser to keep new growth coming and algae at bay. The bronze new leaves are one of the prettiest sights in a planted tank.
