Echinodorus ‘Red Rubin’ for Singapore Planted Tanks
‘Red Rubin’ is a much-loved sword cultivar with elegant ruby-tinged leaves that deepen toward burgundy under strong light. We recommend it as a striking background centrepiece, where its tall rosette and warm colour contrast beautifully against green crypts and stem plants. It is an easy grower at a moderate pace and handles a wide temperature span, making it a dependable choice for our warm 27-29C heaterless tanks once acclimated from emersed nursery stock.
To bring out the red, combine good lighting with a nutrient-rich substrate, and add CO2 if you want fuller, more compact growth. Being a heavy root feeder, it responds strongly to root tabs tucked in around the base. Plant the crown at substrate level, keep the growth point clear, and allow room for the rosette to mature. Pot up the daughter plants it produces on flower stalks to expand your stock, and remove fading outer leaves to keep it tidy.
