Hemianthus Micranthemoides as a Versatile Carpet
Often sold as pearlweed, this Hemianthus is a more forgiving cousin of HC Cuba and one we happily recommend to hobbyists building their first carpet. It can be cropped low for a foreground lawn or left to grow taller as a bushy midground filler, which makes it flexible for the compact tanks common in HDB and condo homes. The tissue-culture cup means it arrives clean, snail-free and ready to divide.
It is far less fussy than the true HC about CO2, growing acceptably in moderate light, though injection and brighter lighting give the densest, most pearling growth. Our warm ambient water suits it and conditioned local tap water is fine. Trim regularly to encourage horizontal spread; the cuttings replant readily, so a single cup can seed a surprisingly large area over a few weeks of consistent maintenance.
