Pilea Cadierei (Aluminium Plant) in Singapore Setups
The Aluminium Plant is prized for its striking silver-splashed green leaves, and we get plenty of questions about it from local hobbyists. An important note up front: Pilea cadierei is a terrestrial plant, not a true aquatic, so it is best used emersed in paludariums, wabi-kusa, terrariums, or the open, humid top section of an aquascape rather than fully submerged long-term, where it will eventually decline.
Used the right way, it shines. Singapore’s naturally high humidity makes it an easy houseplant-style addition to emersed displays, where the metallic leaf markings catch the eye above the waterline. Plant it in moist substrate with its roots damp but not drowned, give it bright indirect light, and it will reward you with that distinctive frosted foliage that no truly aquatic species can match.
If you want a similar look underwater, we are happy to suggest genuine submerged alternatives. See our guides on emersed sections and emersed versus submersed plants, and browse more in our live plants range.
