Description
This Asiatic liverwort, often called Coral moss, is a thick and compact species with an intense, deep green colour. Only 1-3 cm tall, Riccardia is particularly suited for attaching to branches and stones.
The moss grows slowly and is easily overgrown by algae or other mosses. Riccardia requires more light than other mosses.
Riccardia chamedryfolia (Mini Pellia) in Singapore aquascapes
Mini Pellia, or coral moss, is prized for its dense, deep-green, branching pads that look almost like miniature coral when grown well, and the 1-2-Grow! cup supplies it as clean tissue culture free of pests. We tie or glue thin layers onto branches and stones rather than piling it thick, because the underside needs flow; packed too densely it browns out from the inside. It is one of the most refined textures you can add to a nano scape.
Be honest with yourself about its demands before buying: Riccardia grows very slowly and needs more light than typical mosses, which makes it prone to being smothered by faster algae or rival mosses in our warm, bright tanks. We keep it in clean, well-circulated water with stable parameters and gentle, consistent light, and we trim back any algae-touched edges promptly so the healthy pads keep spreading.
See our other epiphytes for easier mosses to pair it with. Read our Mini Pellia care guide and our methods for attaching moss to driftwood before mounting it.
