Description
Aquarium plant from tissue culture in closed cup.
Taxiphyllum barbieri from South-East Asia is a hardy plant which makes few demands on the water or light. The moss becomes 3-10 cm thick and grows willingly on any surface, so it is ideal for decorating stones and tree roots or concealing installations in the aquarium. Attach the plant with a piece of fishing line or cotton thread until it has gained a hold on the décor. If its growth becomes too luxuriant, it can be pruned with scissors. In breeding aquariums Taxiphyllum barbieri is a wonderful hiding place for the young fish.

1-2-GROW!
Small plants with great success. 1•2•Grow! Are very young plants cultivated and delivered directly from our laboratory. The plants are guaranteed to be free from snails, algae and pesticides and therefore are totally harmless for sensitive shrimp and fish. The range offers unique plants!
Success with your aquarium depends largely on the proper plant choice. In a 1•2•Grow! cup you buy a myriad of plants which can be divided into small portions and cover a larger area. Plants are compact from the start so you will experience a dense and beautiful growth, if you give them the right fertiliser and CO2 from the start! The range is perfect for small and medium sized aquariums, and your patience will be rewarded…
The range offers several mosses and specialties such as Rotala macrandra, Rotala ‘Bonsai’ and mini versions of traditional varieties such as Alternanthera and Eleocharis.
Carefully take the plant out of the cup and rinse off the growing media under the tap.
Split the plant in 6-8 portions using your fingers or sharp scissors (for small foreground plants).
Plant portions into the substrate using tweezers. Then watch them grow!
Growing Bogor Moss (Taxiphyllum barbieri) in Singapore tanks
Because this is a sealed 1-2-Grow! tissue culture, the portion you receive is snail-free and algae-free, which matters in our climate where pest snails ride in on traded plants all year round. We rinse the gel off in dechlorinated water, then tease the mat into small clumps before tying down. Spreading it thin gives clean attachment points and a denser final carpet than dropping one large lump onto wood.
This moss is genuinely undemanding, which is why we recommend it for first hardscapes. Singapore’s warm 27-29C room temperature suits it without a heater, though in the upper range growth speeds up and trimming becomes a fortnightly job. Gentle flow across the moss keeps detritus from settling in the fronds; a still corner under strong light is where most beginners see it brown and thin out.
Browse more attached species in our epiphytes range, compare textures in our moss types comparison, and follow our thick moss carpet guide for tie-down technique.
