Keeping Yellow Congo Tetra in Singapore
The Yellow Congo Tetra brings a soft golden shimmer and flowing finnage that really shows off under full-spectrum planted lighting. They are an active mid-water shoaler, so we always recommend a group of six or more in a tank with open swimming length; cramp them and you lose both the schooling behaviour and the colour. Their West African origins mean they suit our soft, slightly acidic local water well once it is properly dechlorinated.
These tetras appreciate room, so they are better in a 3-foot or larger tank than a nano, and they pair peacefully with other calm community fish rather than fin-nippers that target their long fins. Our ambient 27-29C keeps them comfortable without a heater in most setups. On arrival, rest the transport bag, float it to equalise temperature, then move them across gently with a net to limit the shock that bright lighting and sudden water changes can cause.
