ONF Flat One Plus LED Review: 600 and 900 Models
Korean brand ONF makes some of the most beautifully designed aquarium lights on the market, and the price reflects it. The ONF Flat One Plus is the brand’s signature fixture — slim, almost weightless, with a colour temperature that sits exactly where competition aquascapers want it. After running both the 600 and 900 sizes across showroom builds at Gensou Aquascaping at 5 Everton Park, this review covers what justifies the premium and where Twinstar or Chihiros make more financial sense.
What Sets the Flat One Plus Apart
Two things. First, the spectrum is calibrated around plant chlorophyll absorption peaks rather than human visual brightness, which means lower wattage produces more usable plant light. Second, the build is genuinely beautiful — the 600 model is 8 mm thick at the housing, slimmer than a smartphone, with a brushed aluminium body and no visible screws. For minimalist aquascape competitions where the lighting fixture itself becomes part of the visual composition, the Flat One Plus has dominated for five years.
Flat One Plus 600: For 60 cm Tanks
The 600 is sized for 60 cm aquascapes — typical Singapore HDB-friendly cube and rectangular tanks. PAR at 35 cm depth runs roughly 90-110 µmol at centre, 55-65 µmol at corners on a 60 x 30 x 36 cm tank. Singapore retail sits at SGD 380-460. That is roughly double the Twinstar 600B and triple the Chihiros C2 Pro at equivalent size. The premium lighting selection at Gensou stocks both Flat One Plus sizes.
Flat One Plus 900: For 90 cm Tanks
The 900 scales to 90 cm tank lengths. PAR at 40 cm depth measures 85-105 µmol centre, 50-60 µmol corner on a 90 x 45 x 45 cm tank. SGD 580-700 retail. This sits in the genuinely premium tier alongside the ADA Solar RGB Pro and Twinstar 900S. For 90 cm tanks running competition-style aquascapes with demanding plants, the 900 delivers spectrum quality that justifies the price. For everyday community tanks, it is overkill.
Spectrum and Colour Temperature
The Flat One Plus runs at a fixed 7800K with a precisely calibrated balance of warm white, cool white, red and blue LEDs. The result is a clean, neutral-warm light that brings out red plant pigmentation without the cyan tint of cooler fixtures. Photographs of Flat One Plus-lit tanks consistently look better than identically planted tanks under cooler LEDs — the warmer rendering flatters greens, reds and substrate tones simultaneously.
Mount System and Aesthetic
ONF’s Squaerer hanging system is sold separately at SGD 95-130 and uses thin matte black wires that almost disappear visually. The fixture can also rest on its slim profile across a rimless tank rim, though the hanging configuration is what most Singapore competition scapers use. There are no clip-on mount options — the fixture is designed to be either hung or surface-rested only.
Dimming and Control
The Flat One Plus uses a slim external dial controller — no Bluetooth, no app, no spectrum tuning. The single dial controls overall brightness from 1-100 per cent. Pair with a digital timer plug for photoperiod automation. The lack of app control feels old-fashioned compared to Chihiros, but the spectrum is fixed at the optimal point so there is genuinely nothing to tune. ONF’s view: get the spectrum right at the factory and you do not need user adjustment.
Build, Pros and Cons
The aluminium body weighs 280 g for the 600 and 420 g for the 900. Operating temperature stays at 35-38°C — passive cooling only. IP54, with a 2 metre cable to the dimmer and 1.5 metres to the power adapter. Pros: best-in-class spectrum, beautiful slim profile, premium build, near-silent cooling, generous cable lengths. Compromises: roughly twice the price of Twinstar B-Line at equivalent size, no Bluetooth, no spectrum tuning, hanging system sold separately, IP54 only.
Flat One Plus vs Solo and Resale
The standard Flat One (without “Plus”) is the older sibling at SGD 250-330 for the 600. Most users skip the standard and go straight to the Plus because the PAR difference is meaningful. ONF also makes the Flat Nano at SGD 230-280. ONF fixtures hold resale value better than any other LED brand on Carousell — a used 600 Plus resells at 70-80 per cent of retail after 1-2 years. That cushions the upfront price meaningfully.
Pair-With and Where to Buy
The Flat One Plus 600 suits a competition-style 60 cm aquascape with Dennerle Scapers Soil, an Aquario Neo CO2 diffuser, and the Eheim Classic 2215. The 900 pairs with larger canisters for 90 cm scapes. For shrimp-only tanks, the spectrum quality is wasted. Gensou stocks the 600 and 900 at 5 Everton Park; Polyart and Iwarna carry the 600 consistently. Lazada and Shopee listings from the official distributor are legitimate.
Who Should Buy the Flat One Plus
Competition aquascapers who care about spectrum and visual aesthetic. Photographers who want correct rendering. Builders of premium 60-90 cm aquascapes from the aquarium tank range where every component is chosen for quality. Skip if you want app control, spectrum tuning, or simply do not value the visual minimalism enough to pay double.
