Alternanthera Sp Red Round care for SG planted tanks

This rounded-leaf red Alternanthera is a favourite for adding warm colour against a sea of green stems and carpets. The compact, coin-shaped leaves hold their red best under strong lighting, so place it as a focal cluster in the midground where light is direct rather than tucked in shade. Planted individually and given room, the stems branch into a dense, eye-catching patch.

Red colour in this plant is driven mainly by light intensity, with CO2 and a balanced nutrient supply helping it stay vivid; without enough light the leaves drift toward green. Singapore’s warm 27-29C water and soft, slightly acidic tap suit it once established, though new cuttings may shed a few leaves while adapting before they push fresh red growth. Trim and replant the tops to keep the stand low and bushy rather than leggy.
