Bucephalandra Sp Sokan for Singapore Aquascapers

Bucephalandra Sp Sokan is a collector variety valued for its distinctive leaf shape and the fine spotting many buce develop under good conditions. It is an epiphytic rhizome plant, so it belongs glued or tied onto driftwood and rock with the rhizome exposed, never planted into substrate where it would rot. We point hobbyists towards Sokan when they want an interesting textural detail among broader-leaved plants in a low-tech nature scape.

Sokan settles comfortably into our warm local tanks and soft, slightly acidic dechlorinated tap water without needing a heater in most flats. Moderate light, gentle flow and light fertilisation keep it healthy, and added CO2 simply tightens growth and intensifies colour. Like all Bucephalandra it may shed a few leaves as it adapts to being submersed, so leave the rhizome in place and let it push fresh growth rather than disturbing it.
