Blue Zaire: A Tanganyikan-Style Cichlid for Singapore
Blue Zaire refers to the prized regional variant of the Frontosa, a large, stately rift-lake cichlid named for the deep blue tones it develops with maturity. This is a long-term commitment fish: it grows big, lives many years and needs a spacious, rock-built tank that recreates the deep rocky shores of Lake Tanganyika. We always make sure buyers have the tank volume and filtration to support an adult before they take one home.
Here is the key SG consideration: Tanganyikan cichlids want hard, alkaline water, which is the opposite of our naturally soft, slightly acidic tap supply. We recommend buffering with crushed coral or a dedicated mineral product to lift hardness and pH for proper colour and long-term health. They suit our warm ambient, and a peaceful colony of Frontosa with calm tankmates makes a genuinely impressive display tank.
Build the right environment using our Lake Tanganyika rocky shore setup and the species detail in our Frontosa cichlid care guide. Find more under others.
