Caladium Red Ruffles for Emersed SG Scapes
The deep red, ruffled foliage of Caladium Red Ruffles is a striking accent, but like other caladiums it is a tropical aroid that performs best grown emersed rather than fully submerged. We point Singapore customers toward paludariums, ripariums, and open wabi-kusa setups where the tuber roots into moist substrate and the coloured leaves stand above the water. Our warm, humid climate suits it well, so once established it tends to throw out fresh red leaves readily with minimal coaxing.
Plant the tuber shallow with the growing point near the surface, keep the soil evenly damp, and provide bright but filtered light to hold that rich colour without scorching. Underwater immersion will cause the leaves to soften and melt over time, so treat it as a shoreline or background feature, not a stem plant. In air-conditioned HDB or condo rooms, occasional misting keeps the leaf edges crisp and healthy.
Find more options in our live plants category. To build a home for it, our step-by-step paludarium guide and emersed growing guide cover the setup and care in detail.
