How To Safely Add Fish To Tank

  1. Set live stock aside with transportation bag in room temperature place for 30 minutes.
  2. Then transfer bag to float in aquarium for another 30 minutes
  3. Use a fish net to transfer the live stock by scooping it from the bag into the tank.

Note: Do not release live stocks together with the transportation water into tank.

Costae Tetra Black Line in the planted community tank

The Costae Tetra, with its clean black lateral line and silvery body, is an active mid-water schooler that suits the kind of planted community aquarium many Singapore hobbyists run at home. Like most tetras it shows its best behaviour and colour in a group of eight or more, where the school tightens up and the fish stop being skittish. Kept in too small a number they tend to nip and hide, so we always recommend buying them as a shoal.

These tetras come from soft, slightly acidic blackwater, which our local tap water matches well once dechlorinated, making them low-fuss for SG keepers. They appreciate gentle flow, plenty of plant cover to break sightlines, and a darker substrate that brings out the contrast in their markings. Acclimate gradually by floating the bag, then drip in tank water before netting them across to avoid pH and temperature shock.

See more in our tetra fish selection, and we suggest our how to acclimate new fish guide alongside our beginner community tank stocking guide for compatible tankmates.
