MINI CREEPING BURHEADDennerle has been cultivating this mini creeping burhead for many years, after it was discovered in the early 1980s in an imported shipment. This is an ideal plant for smaller aquaria, such as the 60 L Nano Cube or the 60 cm standard aquarium. Growing to a height of just 25 cm, this creeping burhead is one of the small species and varieties. Its light green leaves contrast beautifully with dark green or colourful plants. Adequate nutrition and good lighting will produce particularly compact rosettes.
Dennerle Echinodorus cordifolius MINI: A Compact Sword for SG Nano Tanks
We like recommending this mini creeping burhead to hobbyists who want the lush sword look without the bulk of a full Amazon sword. Topping out around 25cm, it suits the 60cm standard tanks and nano cubes that fit comfortably in HDB flats and condos. Its light green leaves contrast nicely against darker or more colourful plants, and as a beginner-friendly rosette it asks little beyond steady conditions and decent feeding.
In our climate it grows happily at ambient 27-29C in soft, slightly-acidic tap water, with no chiller needed. Being a root feeder, it does best in nutrient-rich substrate or with a root tab tucked beneath the crown; adequate lighting keeps the rosette compact rather than stretched. Plant it so the crown sits just above the substrate and leave the roots to establish; like other swords it dislikes being repeatedly moved.
Explore our echinodorus collection for pairings, and read the Amazon sword care guide for feeding heavy-rooted species. For positioning in a small layout, our aquascape zones guide is a practical reference.
