Dwarf Gourami originates in the waters of India and is not only beautiful but they can be particularly hardy as well. The male is more colorful while the females are less colorful. Usually the female is gray in appearance. There are a couple of colour varieties including the Blue and the Flame Red. They make a great addition to a fully cycled community tank and are easy to care for in general. Some hobbyists find that these gouramis tend to be a bit too aggressive with conspecifics and choose to keep one to a tank.

Keeping Dwarf Gourami in Singapore Aquariums
Dwarf gourami are one of the easier labyrinth fish to start with here, and our ambient 27-29C water sits right in their comfort range, so most Singapore tanks keep them happily without a heater. As an air-breathing species they gulp at the surface, which means you want a calm, well-oxygenated tank with gentle flow rather than a turbulent one. A lid or covered top also helps, since our humidity keeps the warm air layer above the water that labyrinth fish rely on.
When your gourami arrive, acclimate slowly. Float the bag to match temperature, then drip or gradually add tank water over twenty to thirty minutes before releasing them. Our local tap water is soft and slightly acidic once dechlorinated, which suits them well. Males show the strong colour and can be territorial, so give them planted cover and avoid crowding multiple males in a small footprint.
