The Red Wag Short Body Platy explained
The Red Wag Short Body Platy pairs a vivid red body with contrasting black fins and a compact, rounded “balloon” shape that local keepers find charming in nano and desktop displays. Like all platies it is peaceful, undemanding and a strong starter fish, thriving in Singapore’s warm 27-29C tap conditions where a heater is usually unnecessary. We find the short-body form swims a little slower than standard platies, so calm tank mates and gentle filtration suit it best in a community setup.
Because the shortened spine of fancy short-body strains can affect swimming and digestion, we suggest small, frequent feeds of quality flake and the occasional vegetable matter rather than heavy single meals, and clean stable water from regular changes. They are livebearers and will readily produce fry; a few survive among plants in a community tank. Buffer the soft local tap water slightly toward neutral-to-alkaline to keep colour and fins at their best.
