Keeping Echinodorus ‘Jungle Star Grizzi’ healthy in SG aquariums

This is one of the cultivated sword varieties prized for its variegated, marbled foliage, and we find it makes a striking solitary feature in the midground of a planted tank. Like most Echinodorus it forms a rosette from a central crown rather than a stem, so plant only the roots and keep the crown sitting just at the substrate surface. Burying the crown is the most common reason a new sword stalls or rots, so plant it shallow.

It is a forgiving, undemanding plant that does well even in moderate light, which suits hobbyists running simpler setups without pressurised CO2. In our local climate of 27-29C it grows happily in unheated tanks, and the colour holds best with stable conditions and good root feeding. Expect the emersed nursery leaves to give way to fresh submersed growth over the first weeks, so don’t be alarmed by early leaf drop.
