Alternanthera Sp Red Broad Leaf for a Splash of Colour
Alternanthera Sp Red Broad Leaf is a stem plant grown for its rich red-to-purple foliage, which provides striking contrast against the greens that dominate most planted layouts. The broad leaves give it a fuller, bolder look than finer red stems, making it an excellent midground accent or focal cluster. Beyond looks, it draws up nitrates as it grows and offers cover that small fish and shrimp readily use, so it earns its place functionally too.
For Singapore aquascapers, the honest note is that red plants colour up best under strong lighting and reward added CO2 and a nutrient-rich substrate, so this is a plant for a properly equipped scape rather than a bare low-tech tank. Our warm water keeps growth ticking along; just trim and replant the tops to keep the cluster dense and the colour concentrated near the light. Acclimate new stems gently and expect some initial leaf adjustment as it settles.
