Description
Eleocharis montevidensis
This American Eleocharis is in a fresh grass green colour and grows to be 20-40cm high. It is basic and low maintenance. Each straw is only few millimeters thick and the plant maintains an open form of growth. It is suitable as a background plant, and can further be planted in front and in the centre of the aquarium, in transparent wads, in order to create depth and perspective. The plant spreads through runners, which occasionally have to be trimmed and maybe planted elsewhere.

The easy plants
These plants can thrive and grow well in low-light aquariums.
CO2 supply is recommended because the CO2 supply, despite the low light, ensures the growth of the plants.
The time expenditure per week is less than ½ hour because the plants grow slowly.
Bottom substrate at the beginning and liquid fertiliser for weekly use.
Eleocharis montevidensis (Tropica Pots) for Background Texture
This American hairgrass species stands taller than its dwarf cousins, reaching 20-40cm in a fresh, grass-green tone that adds movement and depth to a planted layout. Supplied as a potted plant, it gives you an established clump to divide and place straight away. Each blade is only a few millimetres thick, and the plant keeps an open, airy habit rather than forming a dense mat, which makes it versatile across the scape.
We like it as a background grass, but planting transparent wads of it forward and toward the centre creates a striking sense of perspective and depth. It is basic and low maintenance, asking little beyond decent light. Singapore’s warm 27-29C tap water, once dechlorinated, suits it well with no chiller needed. Rinse the rockwool, separate into small bundles and anchor them so the open, swaying form develops naturally.
