Monte Carlo Tissue Culture: A Beginner-Friendly SG Carpet
Monte Carlo (Micranthemum tweediei) is the carpet we most often recommend to Singapore hobbyists who want a lush green foreground without the steep demands of HC Cuba. Its small rounded leaves form a dense low mat, and because this cup is tissue culture, it arrives clean of pest snails and algae, giving local nano-tank keepers a tidy, hygienic start.
While it carpets fastest with CO2 and strong light, Monte Carlo is forgiving enough to spread under good LED alone in patient hands. It copes well with our warm 27-29C tap conditions once dechlorinated. The dry start method works especially well in our humid climate, letting the plant root emersed before flooding, which produces a tight carpet with fewer early algae issues in the crucial first weeks.
Split the cup into many small clumps and dot them across the substrate so they knit together quickly. See our Monte Carlo plant guide and emersed dry start method, and find more in our foreground plants range.
