Description

Hemianthus micranthemoidesHemianthus micranthemoides from North America is a graceful plant whose small, arched leaves make it look like a miniature version of Egeria. It has a characteristic trailing growth in intensive light, so it can be used as a foreground plant (stems from 10-20 cm tall, 2-3 cm wide). A compact group of Hemianthus micranthemoides is very beautiful with its small, light-green leaves.

In terrariums the plant forms a compact cushion.

Tropica Hemianthus micranthemoides for SG Aquascapes

Often called pearlweed, this is a versatile stem plant we recommend to hobbyists who want fast, easy green without a fussy carpet. The small, arched leaves give it a delicate, almost willow-like look, and under bright light it trails low enough to double as a foreground. It also bushes out beautifully in the mid-ground, making it one of the more flexible plants in a Singapore layout.

Supplied potted, it establishes quickly once trimmed and replanted, which is also the secret to a dense group. In our warm 27-29C water it grows briskly with CO2 and moderate dosing, and it pearls readily when conditions are right. Regular pruning keeps the lower stems lit and stops a compact bush from shading itself out in a smaller HDB or condo tank.

See our wider live plants range for companions. Keep the group tidy with our trim and replant guide, and if it refuses to pearl, our not pearling causes article walks through the fixes.
