Description

Hygrophila Pinnatifida & Moss

Hygrophila pinnatifida and moss on mangrove wood.
Hygrophila pinnatifida originates from India.
It obtains brown, patched leaves on the surface with a distinctive burgundy colour underneath.
It creates horizontal side shoots and the top shoots should be pinched out in order to maintain compact and attractive growth.
The horizontal side shoots easily attach to both wood and rocks.
Growth is moderate, stems 15-40 cm tall and 10-20 cm wide, and the colour is attractive when planted in small groups with a plain background.
Intense lighting ensures compact growth due to the plant’s slow to medium growth rate.

Hygrophila pinnatifida and moss on wood for instant Singapore scapes

This pre-grown piece pairs Hygrophila pinnatifida with moss already established on mangrove wood, which is a genuine shortcut for local hobbyists who want an aged, natural look without months of waiting. You drop it straight into the scape and let it integrate, skipping the fiddly tying and the early melt that loose portions go through. The fern-like, burgundy-backed pinnatifida contrasts beautifully against the soft green moss.

Once in your tank, give it firm light to keep the pinnatifida compact and coloured, and pinch out top shoots to push the spreading side runners across the wood. In our warm 27-29C tanks both the plant and the moss grow at a steady clip, so trimming keeps the moss from going shaggy and trapping detritus. Aim good flow across the whole piece, as warm bright water invites spot algae onto slower-growing epiphytes.
