Cryptocoryne Wendtii Mi Oya (Tropica 1-2-Grow!) in Singapore

Mi Oya is a distinctive wendtii variety found only in Sri Lanka’s Mi Oya river, prized for its red-brown, gently hammered leaves. Reaching 20-35cm with broad 15-30cm rosettes, it makes a substantial midground-to-background feature rather than a low filler. This tissue-culture cup gives you clean plantlets to establish a clump that will mature into a textured, warmly coloured centrepiece.

This variety is notably heat-tolerant; in the wild it grows in streams above 30C, so Singapore’s 27-29C tanks pose no problem and no chiller is ever needed. That makes it one of the more carefree crypts for our climate. Give it a nutritious substrate, steady light and patience through the genus’s typical settling phase. Once established, the hammered texture and beetroot tones deepen, adding real depth to a planted layout.
