Description
Cabomba is a popular aquatic plant genus from the water-shield family Cabombaceae. It is a relatively hardy and adaptable plant capable of surviving in tropical and extreme temperature conditions.
It features delicate needle-like leaves that grow on thin brittle stems; the vibrant foliage is either pale/lime-green or reddish-purple in color, flowers that are star-shaped or round in structure, it all boils down to the variety.

Keeping Cabomba Caroliniana lush in Singapore aquariums
Cabomba is one of the fastest background stems we stock, and in our warm local tanks it can shoot upward quickly when given strong light. That speed is a double-edged sword: feathery leaves shed and clog filters if the plant is starved or shaded, so we recommend bright lighting and steady dosing from day one. Planting several stems a few centimetres apart gives the dense, bushy backdrop most aquascapers are after.
Singapore’s ambient 27-29C sits at the upper edge of its preferred range, so good flow and oxygenation matter, especially during monsoon power outages when filters cut out. CO2 is not strictly required but visibly improves leaf density and reduces lower-stem rot. Trim and replant the healthy tops regularly rather than letting old bases thin out, which keeps the colony vigorous and full from substrate to surface in your tank.
See the wider selection in our background live plants category, and follow our Cabomba care guide together with our stem plant trim and replant guide to keep growth tidy.
