Ludwigia glandulosa as a red accent in SG aquascapes

Ludwigia glandulosa earns its place as a midground solitary, throwing up a free-standing group of shoots in deep burgundy and bronze that contrasts hard against light green stems. We like it for nature-style and Dutch-style layouts where a single strong colour accent does a lot of work. Reaching around 20cm, it suits mid-sized to larger display tanks rather than the smallest nanos.

Coming from the warm-temperate southeastern US, it is actually a touch happier in cooler tanks, but it grows reliably in Singapore’s ambient 27-29C provided you support it with strong light, CO2 and good iron and micronutrient dosing to deepen the red. Our soft, slightly acidic tap water helps it colour up; pale or stunted growth here almost always points to a light or nutrient shortfall rather than the warmth itself.
