Description
The variety name ‘Blood Red’ already gives an indication of the colour of this new stem plant. This Rotala rotundifolia form certainly has the most intense red colour. Even with softer lighting it shows beautiful colour. With strong light and sufficient CO2, a rich red colour of incredible intensity develops. With light green plants nearby, this fast growing beauty is a fascinating eye-catcher in any underwater landscape. Regular pruning makes Rotala rotundifolia ‘Blood Red’ very suitable for the medium to background.

Rotala Rotundifolia ‘Blood Red’ in Singapore Aquascapes
Among the rotundifolia family, ‘Blood Red’ is the variety we point to when an aquascaper wants the most intense red with the least fuss. What sets it apart is that it shows good colour even under softer lighting, where many red plants stay stubbornly green. Push it with stronger light and CO2 and it develops a rich, deep red that becomes a true eye-catcher beside lighter green neighbours.
It is a fast grower, so it suits hobbyists who want quick results and do not mind a regular trimming routine. In our warm local tanks running at the usual 27-29C it grows readily, and the soft, slightly acidic water from most SG taps once dechlorinated tends to favour good colouration. Its quick growth also helps soak up excess nutrients, supporting balance in a maturing scape.
Top and replant the cuttings to build a dense red hedge for the mid to background. See our Rotala Blood Red care guide and growing rotundifolia bushy guide, and browse more in our background plants range.
