Rotala sp. ‘Green’ for Lush Backgrounds in SG Aquascapes
Rotala sp. ‘Green’ is a well-branched, bushy stem plant we recommend when an aquascaper wants a soft, vivid-green backdrop rather than red. A green form within the rotundifolia group, it grows tall and willingly side-shoots into a dense thicket that frames a layout beautifully. We find it especially useful for adding fresh green volume behind colourful accent plants in nature and Dutch-style scapes.
It is a medium-care, fast-growing plant that does best with good light and a reliable nutrient supply, which keeps the fine foliage compact rather than stretched. It is comfortable across a wide temperature range and settles easily into our warm 27-29C local tanks. CO2 is not strictly required but tightens the growth and deepens the green, and its quick growth helps absorb surplus nutrients in a young scape.
Trim and replant the tops regularly to maintain a thick, even hedge and good light penetration. See our Rotala Green care guide and ideas in aquascaping with Rotala varieties, and browse more in our background plants range.
