biOrb AIR Capillary Matting Replacement
The biOrb AIR capillary matting is the replaceable layer that wicks water up from the small reservoir in the base of the AIR terrarium to the compost above. By drawing moisture through capillary action, it keeps the growing medium evenly damp while preventing roots from sitting in standing water and rotting. It is a genuine consumable, so swapping it out periodically is part of keeping the automated watering system working reliably over the long term.
In our warm, humid climate the matting tends to stay moist, which is helpful for tropical plants, but it also means you should keep an eye on it for any algae or mould build-up and refresh it when it looks tired or clogged. When you replace it, settle the new mat flat against the reservoir contact so the wicking path stays continuous, then check that the compost above is drawing moisture evenly before adding plants back on top.
