How To Safely Add Fish To Tank

  1. Set live stock aside with transportation bag in room temperature place for 30 minutes.
  2. Then transfer bag to float in aquarium for another 30 minutes
  3. Use a fish net to transfer the live stock by scooping it from the bag into the tank.

Note: Do not release live stocks together with the transportation water into tank.

Keeping Glass Catfish (Kryptopterus) in Singapore

Glass Catfish are the translucent shoalers whose visible skeletons make them a living centrepiece in a planted tank. They are genuinely social and decline if kept alone or in pairs, so we never sell them as singles; a group of six or more settles them and brings out their gentle drifting behaviour. Expect them to hover mid-water in a loose pack rather than patrol the bottom like most catfish.

They want calm, mature, slightly soft and acidic water with shaded, planted cover, which our local soft tap water suits once dechlorinated to neutralise chloramine. SG room temperatures around 27 to 29C sit at the upper edge of their comfort, so keep the tank well oxygenated and shaded, and only stable, fully cycled tanks should receive them. They are timid eaters at first and respond best to small live or frozen foods.

Acclimate slowly and add them to an established community. See more in our bottom feeders range, our glass catfish care guide and shoal behaviour guide, plus our acclimation guide.
