  2. Then transfer bag to float in aquarium for another 30 minutes
  3. Use a fish net to transfer the live stock by scooping it from the bag into the tank.

Note: Do not release live stocks together with the transportation water into tank.

Keeping Orange Chromide in Singapore Tanks

The Orange Chromide (Etroplus maculatus) is a small, hardy cichlid from South Asia that earns its keep with warm orange tones and a peaceful temperament compared to most cichlids. It naturally tolerates a range of conditions, from fresh to slightly brackish, which makes it forgiving for keepers still finding their feet. A planted tank with open swimming space and a few hiding spots suits a small group, and they often colour up best when kept as a pair or trio.

Singapore’s warm 27-29C tap water sits comfortably in this species’ range, so most tanks run heaterless. Our local water is soft and slightly acidic, so if you want to lean into the brackish side for richer colour and breeding behaviour, add marine salt gradually rather than all at once. They appreciate stable parameters and respond well to varied feeding. Watch for mild territoriality around spawning, when even this gentle fish becomes protective of its patch.

This species sits in our bottom-feeders range. Acclimate every new arrival slowly using our acclimation guide, and if you plan a saltier setup, our brackish salinity guide covers dosing safely.
