Using the Suto Pleco Cave for SG breeding tanks

For local hobbyists breeding bristlenose or other plecos, a dedicated ceramic cave is the single most reliable way to get a male to claim territory and a female to deposit eggs. We like the Suto cave because the fired ceramic stays inert in our soft, slightly acidic tap water and won’t leach or break down the way some resin ornaments do. The snug, single-entrance shape mimics the rock crevices these fish seek out in the wild, giving the male a defensible spot to guard a clutch.

Corydoras and shy bottom dwellers use it differently, treating it as a daytime retreat that lowers stress in busy community tanks. In a typical HDB-sized setup, the cave’s compact footprint means you can add several without crowding the floor. Position the opening facing away from strong flow so fry and eggs aren’t blasted, and tuck it near driftwood or plants so the occupant feels properly hidden rather than exposed.
