Bucephalandra Velvet Care for Singapore Tanks

Velvet is loved for its dense, dark, matte-textured leaves that give a soft velvety look in the aquascape, contrasting beautifully against glossier plants and pale hardscape. Supplied potted and clean, it is an easy way for Singapore hobbyists to add depth and a refined, almost foliage-like quality to nano cubes and larger displays. We often suggest it as a mid-layer plant nestled between rock crevices where its texture reads best.

As with all buce, attach the rhizome to driftwood or rock rather than planting it in substrate, securing with glue or thread until it roots. Our ambient 27-29C in Singapore keeps it comfortable without a chiller, and our soft, slightly acidic tap water suits it once dechlorinated. Growth is slow and undemanding, needing no pressurised CO2 to stay healthy. Keep gentle flow over the rhizome and avoid sudden parameter changes that can stress the plant into shedding leaves.
