Clearing stubborn glass stains with the ANS Descaling Sponge

Hard white film at the waterline is a constant in local tanks, partly from mineral residue and partly from dried splash during top-ups in our fast-evaporating climate. This descaling sponge is made to scour those baked-on deposits and limescale rings off glass that a soft pad or algae magnet just smears around. We reach for it on display tanks before photos and after a holiday when the water level has dropped and left a crusty tide mark.

Use it on glass tanks only, never on acrylic, as the abrasive face will permanently scratch softer surfaces. Work the stained band with light pressure and a little tank or tap water, rinse the grit away as you go, and finish the clear panels with a soft cloth. For green algae rather than mineral stains, a scraper is gentler and faster, so keep both in your maintenance kit.
