JXA-015 Siphon Cleaner (Simple): A No-Fuss Starter Siphon

The JXA-015 is the stripped-back, budget-friendly siphon we recommend to first-time fishkeepers and to anyone setting up a second small tank. It does the two jobs that matter most on a water change: vacuuming waste out of the gravel and draining old water to a bucket. There are no valves or electronics to go wrong, so it is genuinely beginner-proof and easy to store in a compact HDB or condo cabinet alongside a net and a bucket.

In our warm 27-29C tanks, weekly gravel cleaning keeps nitrate and algae in check, and a simple tool that you actually reach for beats a fancy one that stays in the drawer. Prime it by submerging or quick pumping, then work the tube across the substrate in overlapping passes. Over fine aquasoil, hover the intake just above the surface so you skim detritus rather than vacuuming up the planting medium itself.
