API® MELAFIX fish remedy is an all-natural antibacterial treatment that works to treat infections in fish.

Common bacterial infections are open wounds and abrasions, tail rot, eye cloud, and mouth fungus.

MELAFIX fish remedy also promotes regrowth of damaged fins and tissue. Product may be used when adding fish to an aquarium – particularly to smooth the transition from store to home – and if an infection is suspected, but not yet diagnosed.

Some fish bought in pet stores are already carrying diseases at the time of purchase, which may be difficult to detect in its early stages.

API MELAFIX fish remedy will not adversely affect the biological filter, alter the pH, or discolor water.

MELAFIX is a tea-tree-based remedy many local keepers keep on hand for minor wounds, abrasions, and early fin damage, particularly after introducing new fish. In Singapore’s warm 27-29C water, bacteria are quick to take advantage of a torn fin or scrape, so addressing it early alongside good water quality usually gives the best outcome. We treat it as a gentle first-response tool, not a cure-all for serious or advanced disease.

It’s commonly used to smooth the move from shop to home, easing the transition for stressed fish. One practical note for our climate: melaleuca-based remedies can reduce surface oxygen exchange, so keep an air stone or good surface movement running through the course, since warm tropical water already holds less dissolved oxygen. Remove activated carbon while dosing so the active ingredient isn’t filtered straight back out.
