Scaping with ANS Black Rose lava rock in SG aquariums
We sell this high-grade lava rock by the kilo because it is one of the most forgiving hardscape stones for Singapore aquascapers. Its dark, pitted texture reads beautifully against bright green carpets and stems, and the porous body doubles as biological surface area for beneficial bacteria. Unlike many limestone-based rocks, lava is inert and will not push up your hardness or pH, which matters here where our soft, slightly acidic tap water is the baseline most of us scape and stock around.
Being porous, lava is also relatively light per litre of bulk, so you can build height and drama without the heavy floor-loading concerns of a dense stone pile in an HDB flat. The rough surface is ideal for tying moss, Bucephalandra or Anubias, letting you grow an aged, overgrown look quickly. Give each piece a good rinse and a quick scrub before it goes in to clear loose grit.
