ANS Black Rose S Lava Rock (5-15cm, 25kg) for SG Aquascapes

These smaller 5-15cm lava pieces are the workhorse size for building natural rockscapes, filling gaps between larger feature stones and creating planting pockets. Lava rock’s porous, lightweight body is a quiet advantage in our flats, where a 25kg box of stone still adds meaningfully to floor loading once water and substrate go in, so the lower density per litre of structure helps keep a nano or mid-size tank within sensible weight. The dark, matte texture also makes greens and shrimp colours pop.

Beyond looks, lava’s open pores host beneficial bacteria, so a generous hardscape doubles as supplementary biological media, handy in our warm 27-29C tanks where biofiltration runs hard. The rough surface grips moss, Anubias and Bucephalandra well when tied or glued, letting epiphytes establish without burying rhizomes. Rinse thoroughly before use to clear grit and fine dust that can cloud the water.
