Using the Zhen De Broken Barrel in Your SG Aquarium

The Broken Barrel ornament works hardest as a functional hideout rather than just a prop. In our shops we see it paired with bettas, kribensis and small bristlenose, where the open-ended shell gives a shy fish somewhere to retreat without blocking flow. The weathered, half-collapsed casting reads naturally against driftwood and a darker substrate, and at this footprint it suits the nano and mid-size tanks most HDB and condo keepers run at home.

Cast resin holds up well in our warm 27-29C water and will not leach or alter pH, so it is safe alongside soft, slightly acidic tap water once dechlorinated. Rinse it under running water before it goes in, and position the opening facing your viewing pane so timid fish settle rather than skulk at the back. We suggest seating the base into substrate a centimetre or two so curious cichlids cannot topple it while digging.
