Description
Jungle Base is a substrate material to be spread on the bottom of aquarium tanks where water tends to stagnate. Because it is pumice based blended with soil microorganisms and charcoal powders effective for the growth of plants, the breathability is maintained in the substrate, and it prevents plants from root rot.
By using Jungle Base and Jungle Soil together, a substrate suitable for Jungle Plants can be created.
DOOA Jungle Base substrate for SG paludariums and jungle layouts
Jungle Base is a pumice-based bottom layer blended with charcoal and beneficial microorganisms, designed to sit beneath Jungle Soil so the substrate stays breathable and roots avoid rot. We point local paludarium and DOOA Wabi-Kusa builders toward it because Singapore’s high ambient humidity keeps these semi-emersed layouts damp, and stagnant lower zones are exactly where anaerobic pockets and root rot tend to develop in our climate.
Spread it thinly across the base where water tends to collect, then cap with Jungle Soil for planting. The porous pumice structure also hosts bacteria that help process organic waste, which matters in the slow-moving, shallow water typical of a paludarium. For our warm 27-29C conditions this breathability is genuinely useful, since warm stagnant substrate degrades faster than it would in a cooler climate.
