Echinodorus Red Spider as a Singapore focal plant
Red Spider is a striking sword with narrow, pointed leaves that fan out in a distinctive spidery rosette, often flushing reddish under bright light. We position it as a midground or background centrepiece in larger local tanks, where its bold silhouette breaks up dense stem-plant backdrops and draws the eye. As a robust, relatively easy Echinodorus, it suits hobbyists who want impact without the fiddliness of delicate carpet plants.
This is a hungry root feeder, so the difference between a pale, leggy plant and a deep, colourful one usually comes down to a nutrient-rich substrate backed with root tabs. Strong lighting deepens the red tones. Our soft, slightly acidic Singapore tap water suits it once dechlorinated, and at ambient 27-29C no heater or chiller is required. Give the rosette room to spread, since crowding shades out its lower leaves over time.
