Caring for Anubias Nana Dark Moon in SG Aquariums

This compact dark-leaved Nana variety is one of the easiest epiphytes we recommend to beginners walking into the shop. Its small, deep-green leaves suit nano and shrimp tanks that are common in Singapore flats, and it holds up fine in our ambient 27-29C water without any heater or chiller. Slow, steady growth means you rarely need to trim, and the dense foliage gives cherry shrimp and small fish welcome grazing surfaces and cover.

Because it is an epiphyte, never bury the rhizome in substrate; in warm tap water a buried rhizome will soften and rot within days. Instead glue or tie it onto driftwood, lava rock or a small stone, keeping the rhizome above the surface so only the roots grip. Keep lighting low to moderate, as the dark leaves develop algae if blasted with high PAR. Gentle flow and weekly water changes keep the foliage clean.

For propagation by splitting the rhizome as it spreads, read our Anubias rhizome division guide, and pair it with low-light companions from our low-light no-CO2 plants list. Explore matching species in our epiphytes collection.
