Description
Bolbitis Heudelotii
Bolbitis comes from West Africa, a fern with beautiful, transparent green leaves, 15-40 cm tall and wide.
When planting do not cover the rhizome because it will rot, and it is best to plant Bolbitis heudelotii on a root or stone.
Easy to propagate by splitting the horizontal rhizome.
Growth can be increased considerably by supplying CO2, and is only optimal in soft, slightly acidic water.

Growing TROPICA Bolbitis heudelotii in Singapore
African water fern is one of the few epiphytes that genuinely likes our soft, slightly acidic tap water, which is exactly the condition it wants. We sell a lot of it to local scapers because the translucent, finely cut fronds add a wild, mature texture that hardier plants can’t match. The key thing to remember is never to bury the rhizome in substrate, as it will rot; tie or glue it onto driftwood or stone instead.
It’s a slow grower, so be patient through the settling-in weeks, and don’t panic over a little initial melt as the emersed-grown tissue converts. Injected CO2 noticeably speeds growth and deepens colour, though it remains manageable without it. In our warm tanks gentle flow keeps the fronds clean and free of detritus.
