Vesicularia Dubyana ‘Christmas’
A moss speciality from Brasil, 1-3 cm tall, called “Christmas tree moss”, because of its side branch structure which distinguishes it from ordinary Vesicularia dubyana and looks like fir tree branches.
It is more demanding than ordinary Java moss and grows more slowly.
It attaches readily to roots and stones, and as it spreads in the water it needs pruning to keep its shape attractive. See also Taxiphyllum barbieri.

Christmas moss portion for layered Singapore scapes
This is the loose portion of Christmas moss, supplied as a usable bunch ready to attach rather than a tissue-culture cup. We like recommending it to scapers who want volume quickly and plan to spread the moss across a larger piece of driftwood or a back wall. Tease the portion into thin strands before fixing, since a thin even layer attaches faster and grows back denser than a thick clump pressed flat.
In our climate the moss settles in well once anchored, but the warm 27-29C water means growth picks up fast, so plan for regular trims to keep that signature fir-tree branching neat. Pass gentle flow through the fronds to keep detritus from packing into the dense growth, and always dechlorinate tap water before top-ups because the local supply is chloraminated.
