Ammo Ex is a specially selected zeolite based product with a massive surface area to allow rapid adsorption of ammonia which is highly toxic to fish. This product is used ideally after a filter clean or after adding a number of new fish to the existing population. A suitably sized filter media bag is included for ease of use. Simply add the required amount of media to the filter bag, rinse under the tap and add to your filter.

ANS Ammo Ex zeolite media for SG fish tanks

Ammo Ex is a zeolite-based media with a large surface area that rapidly adsorbs ammonia, the most toxic of the nitrogen compounds for fish. It is a targeted tool rather than a permanent filter filling: we reach for it right after a heavy filter clean that has disturbed the bacterial colony, or after adding a batch of new fish that temporarily outpaces the existing bacteria. The included media bag makes it easy to drop into a canister or hang-on filter.

In Singapore’s warm 27-29C water, ammonia toxicity rises and biological processes run fast, so having zeolite on hand is sensible insurance for a new tank or an unexpected bioload spike. Rinse the media under the tap, bag it, and place it in the flow path. As the product notes, replace it after two to three months once it saturates, and rely on a mature biofilter as your long-term defence.
