Using ANS Carbon Ex in Singapore Aquariums
Activated carbon earns its keep in our local tanks, where chloraminated tap water and warm 27-29C conditions can leave a faint chemical edge after a water change. Bagged in its supplied net, Carbon Ex slips neatly into a hang-on or canister tray and pulls down the yellow tea-stain that driftwood and botanicals shed, plus any lingering odour. We reach for it most when a customer wants polished, colourless water for a display tank or after dosing certain medications.
Because our ambient warmth speeds up biological and chemical activity, carbon tends to exhaust a little faster here than the two-month guideline suggests, especially in a tannin-heavy or heavily stocked tank. We tell hobbyists to rinse the net for a minute or two first to clear carbon dust, then replace it on schedule rather than recharging, since spent carbon cannot be reactivated at home. Position it after mechanical media so it stays cleaner for longer.
Carbon is one piece of a balanced tray, so pair it sensibly with biological and mechanical layers. Browse the full range under filter media, and read our activated carbon guide alongside our filter media guide to slot it into the right stage of your filter.
