BioPlus Fine – Filter Sponge

The JUWEL fine filter sponge is primarily used for the biological filtering of your aquarium, making it an essential component of the JUWEL filter system.
The fine pore structure gives a very large surface area, guaranteeing slow and even water flow conditions. This means that it is particularly suitable for biological filtering in the an aerobic area.
The open pores of the JUWEL filter sponge were made without the use of chemicals, meaning that there is no residue.

BioPlus Fine is the tight-pored sponge that sits lower in a JUWEL Bioflow chamber, where flow slows down. Its dense pore structure gives a very large surface and creates the calmer, lower-oxygen zones where the deeper stages of biological filtration happen. It also gives you a final polish on the water, catching the fine particles the coarse sponge above it lets through.

In our warm Singapore tanks, pairing a fine sponge below a coarse one is what keeps water both biologically stable and visibly clear. We remind JUWEL owners to keep this sponge in service and only rinse it gently in old tank water, because the slower flow here means it holds an important share of your mature colony. Replace it on a stagger with the other media, never alongside them, so you never reset your filtration in one move.
