OASE Surface Skimmer CrystalSkim (350/600) for SG planted tanks
An oily, dust-like film on the water surface is common in Singapore aquariums, especially planted tanks running CO2 with gentle flow, because protein and biofilm collect where there is little agitation. The CrystalSkim pulls that surface layer in continuously, keeping the water-air boundary clean so gas exchange improves and your top-down view stays clear. The 350 suits nano to mid tanks while the 600 handles larger aquariums.
In our warm 27-29C water, dissolved oxygen sits lower than in cooler climates, so removing the film that blocks gas exchange genuinely helps livestock breathe at night when plants stop producing oxygen. Position it on a calmer side of the tank, adjust the intake so it draws the very top layer without forming a loud vortex, and rinse the basket weekly since biofilm rebuilds fast in our heat. It runs quietly enough for a bedroom HDB setup.
